It's not about base load it's about peaker plants that will have to run more than today, hourly spikes will be taken care by the batteries. The other problem is that demand for electricity is growing even more than before and no one want's to invest into fossil fuel power plants. This poses risk about generating enough power.
I see a very big rise in nuclear power, not that renevables will fail, it's just that only with renevables we will never keep up with massive demand. The problem with nuclear is that it takes a very long time to build it. Maybe there is some hope in SMR, but it will take a decade to commercialise.
