I'm thinking blending could be the answer. Don't quote me, finding this kind of info is hard - like company secret hard. But it's been mentioned you could blend high quality, low carbon (emission) anode with lower quality anode material to produce a Goldilocks anode material - right cost, acceptable carbon footprint, etc.
LKAB are working hard on coal free steel making- I can see a day where synthetic anode could be produced in a similar vein.
Talnode C or Talnode Si could become the secret sauce that ups the quality and credentials of ordinary batteries that otherwise wouldn't pass tough EU environmental regulations.
