EU doesn't have any elections to speak of. You can vote for the Parlament, but not the European commission. And the commission is doing all the laws. The Parlament can only say yes/no but has no legislative power. The commission is selected by the heads of the member states.
In Germany, that means you are 3 steps a
removed from influencing European laws.
1. European commission has legislative power
2. German commissioner is selected by German chancellor (not elected or voted for, selected)
3. Chancellor is elected by ruling party from German Parlament members.
4. German citizens vote for Parlament members and ruling party.
In reality, we have no say in European politics whatsoever.
Im essence, the EU is the most undemocratic democracy you can think of. But on the plus side, the EU exists not to serve the people, but to support European businesses and protect business interests against the interests of the people (i.e. good for Talga)..
