Telstra does have a strength in home broadband in that its NBN modem also has fixed wireless, so if there is an outage with NBN (which seems to happen more than it should) then things will still work, wont be as good, but losing connectivity al together can be a major pain point for many.
Those modems also give Telstra the ability to offer fixed wireless as an alternative to NBN one day, they havent been able to because of a confidential agreement with the NBNCo/Government related to payments they receive, but i suspect that ends when NBN Rollout finishes.
Im not sure what other RSPs ship out modems with fixed wireless capability by default.
Telstra is also bringing call centers onshore (but at what cost?), legacy systems are disappearing, its a big ship to turn around, but i think one or two years we might see some real change.
