Have to agree, Strike. I'm no lover of the current government (understatement), but credit where credit is due.
When Telstra was privatised (Libs?, Labour?) the copper wires and the retail section should never have been bundled together. It created a very uneven playing field for all the other players. Then it was a good idea to keep the NBN separate and it is not a good idea to roll it into one of the existing players, especially the biggest player in the market.
And would Telstra want the NBN anyway? Given the current mess there (OK, the current gov stuffed it up - so there) and the future role of 5G, it could become an expensive albatross around Telstra's neck.
