I wrote about this scenario very soon after the NBN was announced. If TLS took all the low hanging fruit away from the NBN with its HFC the economics of the NBN falls further into the toilet. That would leave Conroy having to service those in the bush under the data version of the universal service obligation. The USO for telephony is apparently still Telstras even if the NBN is built! Can you believe it Conroy wants the isolated people to embrace the internet age but VOIP is not a recognised form of telephony therefore does not help with the USO.
At some point Telstra HAS TO walk away from Conroy if he is being hard nosed, and go it alone
