Trends in years past, when Telstra lost significant share in fixed broadband and mobile customers to the more customer-friendly Optus and Vodafone, are finally showing signs of change.

Mr Anagnostellis said that Telstra's $1bn fighting fund -- $450m of which has been dedicated to win back mobile market share -- was already leaving massive dents in the subscriber gains of its competitors Optus and Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA).

For the December quarter Mr Anagnostellis estimates that Telstra acquired 674,000 mobile subscribers, representing a gain of three new customers to every one of Vodafone's. "Mobile is looking good for Telstra and it should look good because they have sunk a lot of money into it. That's important because part of Telstra's $1bn strategy was to get out there and grow market share. And they look like they have achieved that to some extent," Mr Anagnostellis said."
