Its an interesting aside Aqua65. I used to work at Alcoa in WA, and recall a French company Rhone Poulenc set up a circuit to pull out traces of gallium in a portion of the liquor from Alcoa's alumina processing facility in the 80's at Pinjarra.
Production stopped soon after, not sure if it was due to economics and gallium prices, or environmental issues, or whatever.
I'd suggest the economics would be an issue if it wasn't removed as a by-product of an existing alumina processing facility.
