Hi Hawk,
Thanks for your comment that you know the Meekatharra area after having worked there.
Do you know the G abanintha and Yarrabubba Project areas as well please?
(I read G abinintha is just 40km from Meekatharra!)
I just read that Meekatharra and surrounds were pretty well central in a major Mid West weather event back on March 29 that caused massive disruptive flooding.
Disaster relief funding was finally applied to three days ago on March 26 ;
… “Communities in Western Australia’s Mid West, Gascoyne and Pilbara regions affected by a severe thunderstorm and subsequent flooding in late March and early April can now access disaster recovery funding.It was announced in a joint statement from Federal Minister for Emergency Management Murray Watt and WA Minister for Emergency Services Stephen Dawson MLC.The City of Greater Geraldton and the shires of Cue, East Pilbara, Meekatharra, Murchison, Upper Gascoyne and Wiluna are now eligible for assistance through the joint funded Commonwealth State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements…” [ref].
Apparently it was the most significant rainfall event since 2011 [ref]
But based on the company’s recent Twitter photos (posted May 22), all is dry at the TMT tenements, now at least.
What’s your opinion please (and that of anyone else) on the flooding having delayed progress until now?
Is the area where the Projects are situated elevated, or might future floods need to be dealt with in regards site protection, insurance etc etc?
cheers
