Top Map - Suncable's original plan - note the HV infrastructure.
They had planned to install a battery on the SW boundary of the TIVAN refinery site (bottom map)
It also looks like they were planning to tie in to the Darwin/Katherine 132kV integrated line.
A lot of design work would have been completed to get to this point to submit to the NTEPA.
Those access points along the Southern boundary of the estate where the Southern & Northern Route are no longer required - this area now available for retasking to alternate developments.
The indicative OHTL will now run to the East of Darwin to the new location at Murrumujuk.
However a battery could be built at anytime & connected to the existing Darwin/Katherine 132kV line.
When suncable is completed & also connected to the network, this becomes 100% renewable energy as will the rest of Darwin.
If the batteries are big enough, noting the footprint seems very small, potentially supplying energy storage of renewables for Darwin as well as whatever projects are built at Middle Arm.
And that is a very good first mover example in Australia demonstrating how you can decarbonize industrial processes & cities.
Will they do this? They have the engineering, advanced EIS for the Middle Arm site & Suncable already have the experience in preparing a significant variation - their's was relocating the project (as TNG will be required to do for TIVAN) however, Jon Fisher & Tellus had also submitted a significant variation in the past to change the process proposed for their site. That is what would need to happen for the battery/HV if it gets relocated to the old TIVAN site as well as whatever (there are no known details declared) is proposed with Hysustain.
Attending an AGM : I'd be hoping to ask questions about this development & whether it ties in with Suncable (who still have not declared what battery technology they are using) but I'm not sure that the company would be able to answer. Any tie up with Suncable would be market sensitive.
As with whomever are the consortium supporting AGV Energy. But I don't think technology choice would be.
Can anyone tell me if these are the sorts of questions that the company would entertain answering at an AGM or is the agenda managed to the point that this would fall beyond the meeting's scope?
From Suncable's initial Submission :
