I imagine it's easier to keep a share price artificially low using all of the many tools available, including shorting the stock, than people realize.
High frequency trades, selling to related entities, artificially running the price down to 'shake the tree', trigger stop losses.
So many different ways to do this. So many reasons also.
And a company with disruptive technology would be one that many entities would have motivation to do so.
