Maverick not sure how great you rate Buckley's chance but I reckon it has a arbitrary, greater than zero, mathematical value, evidenced by the fact Buckley survived when his two fellow escapees from the first port philip settlement in 1802, died soon after escaping; one perished & one was flogged to death on returning if I recall rightly. Not only did he survive but he lived with the Wathaurong Aborigines around Geelong area for 32yrs then he became a guide and interpreter to those establishing a colony around Port Philip.
In fact he died, before his time, about 20 years later again, from injuries he received in a "traffic accident" in Hobart Town in about 1856 I think 'twas.
Having said that I do agree a sweetener may be needed to convince TDO's major shareholders of the benefits of merging into a bigger force with DLS.
