mmmm - that is a big call. how many countries still keep the union jack, as a part of their flag????. apart from australia, and new zealand, their might be a few island states - here and there

ok - about the spanish - they were probably never interested in this part of the world. as watso seems to have trouble recalling if the spaniards ever had a ship in australian waters. certainly the dutch and the french did.

seeing that you mention the phillipines, in relation to spain, then it might be an idea to mention the indian subcontinent (ie india, pakistan, bangladesh) as part of the english "discovery" - and then extend that to burma, malaysia, and of course the african colonies. frankly, there is not much difference between these countries, and the countries that you mention (in relation to spain).

so how long should we have the union jack as part of our flag??? watso is certain that the romans must have established some form of order in england. so perhaps the english should acknowledge this link, in their flag - etc etc.

the english link, gets weaker and weaker, as time goes by.

the english, certainly developed a good system of government over the years, which has stood the test of time. sadly, this is now being eroded by international treaties (united nations, european union).

the sun was never supposed to set on the british empire, but like all previous empires, the sun has set. pax britanica (or whatever it was), has been replaced by pax americana, which will probably replaced by pax yellow peril .

that bit on the top left hand corner of the australian flag, could be reserved for the next world power... mmm how come we do not have the stars and stripes in that space???. after all harold holt, was all the way with lbj, and johnie howard was (&*^% with george bush
