LONDON (Dow Jones)--Murchison United said Monday that it is preparing to commence the first phase of an extensive 2007 drilling program within its portfolio of uranium exploration projects located in the Republic of Guinea in West Africa.
The initial program of RC drilling will be undertaken at the Firawa Prospect in southern Guinea, one of three large exploration concessions held by Murchison in Guinea. Drilling at Firawa is scheduled to commence within 10 days, following completion of an access road which is currently under construction to enable the drill rig to be transported to site.
The Firawa program will comprise 31 RC drill holes for a total of 2,050 metres of drilling, targeting a highly prospective 2km section of a previously identified uranium anomaly extending for over 5km within the Firawa exploration licences.
Samples will be taken every metre for analysis in Canada for uranium and Rare Earth Elements. Murchison will release the results of the drilling to the market as they become available.
The Firawa prospect is one of three concessions held in Guinea - the others being Sesse and Bohoduo. At this stage, drilling of the Bohoduo prospect has been deferred due to delays and difficulties in obtaining access to drill rigs, and the expected onset of the rainy season in June-July.
Commenting on the announcement, Murchison United's Managing Director, Mr Mark Reilly, said the commencement of drilling in West Africa represented a significant landmark for the Company, following months of preparatory work.
"We are looking forward to the commencement of this important drilling program at Firawa, which will test a very large uranium anomaly previously identified on our tenements," Mr Reilly said.
Murchison United has secured an extensive portfolio of uranium exploration projects comprising some 13,600km2 of highly prospective tenements in Mauritania and Guinea, West Africa. Its objective is to delineate significant new uranium deposits within these under-explored terrains.
Murchison United NL is an Australian-based no liability company whose principal activity is minerals exploration. The company currently has uranium exploration projects in Mauritania and Guinea in West Africa and copper interests in the Millennium copper leases in Cloncurry, Queensland and the Maroochydore copper project in Western Australia.
