it all depends on WHAT the majority want from HC.
Reality is that not only does the abuse and somewhat heated debate come in the form of general topics but also strong disagreement and personal attacks with regards to stocks are also prevalent. I think most of us have played a role in that at some time or other. Who plays judge when the attack/debate gets too heated or too personal. Who seperates the genuine opinions from the coniving?
It is somewhat obvious that as a community we can't do it...ahh...hit another nail into socialism.
Membership with a reprersentation of members forming some sort of a moderating board may not be everyones cup of tea but could go some way toward creating a more positive forum, especially as Alpha says for those that spend a lot of their day tied to their pc's and look for some grey matter stimulation. Strangely enough these people have the most to offer the new punters if encouraged to share their trials and tribulations.
I won't hold my breath though because a couple of hundred members paying $100 pa won't be enough to attract advertisers and to keep the site afloat imho.
