Meant to daze and confuse the mind and to stimulate the need for ever greater doses of caffeine, radio music is a form of propaganda, far worse than the sound of machines and grinders. Binaural beats have a differential between the frequencies going into the left and right ears. The brain synthesises the difference and is supposed to put one into an altered state. It was Bob Monroe and Tom Campbell who pioneered the technology at the Monroe institute. Monroe was the old guy who had had the out of body experiences and who was trying to find out what they were. Campbell was the young physics student who worked with him.

Couldn't agree more. I loath music in the work place and in supermarkets, cars, anywhere. Too precious to use as white noise. When I listen it becomes a deeply moving experience for me.
