Seems to me they were unable to catch the big fish they were after and are now resorting to trawling the shallows.
As a PR exercise it won't win many friends and as a financial enterprise might prove less than lucrative and could just end up sinking nearmap further below the radar.
I was under the impression they were going to throw their lines offshore and take this thing into international waters. Yeah we've all heard that crap.
I am not convinced their strategy to catch sardines will pay off, but obviously they are desperate to make a buck and are willing to net anything they can.
On the other topic re the $130k + / annum position, i might have to send in application; experience not applicable and after working for a few years i might just make enough to cover my investment losses. On the other hand, doesn't appear as if anyone stays that long in a job at nearmap.
