Although it probably can be done,with some of the earth moving that has to be done its going to have a fairly dramatic effect on the landscape and we all know that once you stuff an ecosystem its pretty well nigh impossible to put it back to what it was.
I dont know that its about negotiating of terms as such with the NT Govt or the Indigenous people.It HAS to be environmentally sustainable.I get the impression that the original mine was probably let in in the first place because it was to be an underground Op with a relatively small footprint.This open pit will be in a word,MASSIVE,80Ha+ from the looks of that info.
And yes I am a bit biased.After all it could have quite an effect on some emerging zinc plays if it was not to go ahead.
