Still embarrassing yourself because you have no valid reason for the date remaining the same ?

Just blabbering away because you got your widdle baby feelings hurt ? Too stubborn to admit you were wrong ?

Still using the " just because l said so " angry old white man argument ?

    Real problems eh ?

ln case you haven't noticed , we have many problems in indigenous communities . They are still some of the most underprivileged people in the country. Especially the ones in the outback. lt is a huge problem. Apart from being a massive social problem it is also a growing financial liability .
So far , despite spending lots and lots of money , we have hardly moved the needle.
Just like any other community member that's down on their luck , the rest of us more fortunate members should be doing a better job of helping them out.

One of the bigger problems is the divide between black and white in this country . And that divide is definitely holding the country back. No one can argue against that .

l would classify the indigenous issues as one of the " real " problems in Australia that needs to be addressed. lt won't be fixed overnight and it won't be easy however it needs to be sorted.

One of the first things we can do is show some respect. As any mature adult knows, relationships matter. The better relationships we have, the better we understand each other. The better we understand each other and the issues at hand , the easier it is to fix the problems.

That goes for anyone in life. Better relationships are very productive.

So , in order to build better relationships we need to show people respect. A great and particularly easy way to show respect is to stop dumping on them on Australia day. They have a pretty legitimate argument for that.

lt would be similar to going into a church and running amok during mass. All you are doing is pissing off people and disrespecting them for no good reason.

As a massive gesture to indigenous people we should change the date. Then we can say , hand on heart , that we have listened and we have done something about it. lt would give us an enormous amount of credibility that indigenous people would have no choice but to acknowledge. A big step for very little effort on our part really.
No longer would there need to be protests about invasion day. That could be confined to history like all the other bad stuff.

As it turns out we are arguably not celebrating on the right day if that's what people want to do. lt seems that this is not only a great opportunity to improve relationships but also a great opportunity to make Australia day even better by acknowledging history. History isn't history if it's wrong.

Having a day that we all know why we are celebrating and one that absolutely everyone can celebrate is a massive win .

Building better relationships that lead to better outcomes more quickly is a no brainer. Picking the low hanging fruit that is moving the date is one of the easiest things we can do. Everyone still gets a day off. Everyone still gets to celebrate Australia. No one misses out.

White Australia gets some serious cred for moving the day.

A real problem is addressed comprehensively.
