As with anything to be successfull you need to be passionate about it but basically follow the trends, like now commodities are all the rage. Create trading rules that you adhere too such as stop losses. After a while you will get a feel for the markets and how they react to a certain extent because one thing you learn trading, nothing is certain. As for how much you need to trade I think $20,000 would be enough to start but be prepared to loose money and if you can't don't trade. There's been days where i've been banging my head on the desk thinking what an i doing this for and others of intense uphoria(that was more in the early days) now i have learnt to take the emotion out of the trade almost completely. And take up running it really helps on the bad days.
