As far as I understand, a number of 'officials' both within PT Timah (state owned tin refiner) and locally have been allowing for the illegal mining and refining of tin and filling their own pockets with the cash. The illegal mining has also been causing a lot of environmental degradation in local communities. PT Timah has also been bleeding cash and the implication, from what I have read, is that this is in part because of the illegal tin (maybe it has been refined for free?). The guy reporting on it, Jeff Sawick, indicated he will look at doing podcast/s in next week so expect this will be explained in better detail then.

The implication is that they will clean this up and stop the illegal tin mining and refining of it. This would put a dent in the already falling PT Timah numbers and hamper supply. By what amount remains to be seen.
