I did my first trade in June 1957. Whaling was in trouble but a new season and new hope and a company about to have another go. Shares were half a penny each. I bought a few and told the agent to resell them when they were a penny. Next day the first whale of the season was caught and the shares were resold. In those days $100 was a lot of money and it paid for a suburban building block in Brisbane. I had bought off the plan and a few weeks later sold that block for $180.

These days I'm happy to make 10% on a trade, hoping to get it in one day but usually it does take a few days. I get about an 80% success rate. You don't win em all!

Trading wasn't done online, you rang a broker, established an account and dealt with him personally.
