Todays FR has again highlighted this and well worth a read: if this happens team this will be huge: you can infer from the article its a done deal:
"This may not have traction as an election issue but it coincides with a little publicised proposal under new Basel 111 international banking regulations ,which could become the basis for a defacto gold standard. Under new rules, the stays of gold held by banks would be elevated from Tier 3 asset,where holdings are discounted by 50% to Tier 1 Capital"
