would be interested to hear George's opinion of the SP value westcott... this whole debacle of a year for SDL has just reinforced for me that the money is almost never wrong... id post things like "the market is saying there is still a lot of risk to this deal" and people would shoot me down... the market has been proven right once again...
china are probably better off buying a commodity at a slightly inflated price, rather than spending $7b of capital in a volatile market, to reduce costs by a fraction (which all depends on future demand, which may not be so great)...
all those companies you mentions probably were interested a few years ago, but things have changed... companies are looking to preserve capex, reduce opex etc, not launch head first into a $7b new project...
no one doubts that SDL is a viable project, its just the capital cost to get it there thats disputed...
