DoubleDown, I agree with you that the net $ increase is more important than % increase.
From the last half yearly report for 2019H1,
- Revenue = $179.8M
- EBITA = $50.8M
- EBITA Margin = 28.3%
- NPAT = $19M
We can rough out the Cost of Goods Sold = $129M (highly simplified) but it is substantial and remains pretty much fixed regardless of REO/NdPr pricing.
At the end of the day, it's the investors' sentiment that drives the SP. When RE price goes up, they are happy to buy. From the charts above, the Malaysian Regulatory Environment appears to have produced more prominent peaks then the RE price jumps.
