The Sayona Quebec company wants to launch an experimental project that could transform its lithium concentrate with greater respect for the environment.The company, which hopes to exploit its Authier project in La Motte, has signed an agreement with Integrated Carbon Sequestration (ICS). This Australian company has developed a process that uses nitric acid rather than sulfuric acid in the production of lithium hydroxide and carbonate, which are used in the production of batteries for electric vehicles.

This process makes it possible to recycle 90% of the production residues, explains Guy Laliberté, CEO of Sayona Quebec. If this first phase proves successful, the project then provides for the construction of two pilot plants, all within a 24-month horizon.

The total costs of the three phases are estimated at $ 6 million and Sayona will apply for funding under the program to support research and innovation in the mining sector (PARIDM).We hope to start the project by this spring, adds Mr. Laliberté.

Our announcement of partnership with Piedmont in the United States generated a significant increase in our market capitalization, which now reaches 150 million [US] dollars. Our priority remains the start of production of the Authier project to produce lithium concentrate.

But this progression allows us to envision a second stage of transformation more quickly.
