It also reflects very poorly on all those people, paid by the public to keep them safe, the police force.
They are prepared to follow draconian orders without protest because they aren't prepared to speak out and risk losing their safe income or even worse, they think it's just fine and enjoy it. It's like a soldier committing crimes against humanity because he was ordered to claiming he had no choice but worse because the police can walk away anytime whereas a soldier at war could be charged with deserting and risk being shot.
