AFR article talks about de-risking of assets is due to the Royal Commission and APRA looking closely at the asset risk which is ultimately backing the underlying annuities.
IMHO, unfortunately the lower ROE and margins appears structural for the time being and the lower interest rate environment is only exacerbating this.
Headwinds are ubiquitous: This low interest rate environment may persist for many many years, the traditional product distribution channels probably won't ever be the same again, Japanese distribution is stalled.
Hard to fathom for those of us who have held the last 3-4 years, but CGF has fallen around the same amount as AMP and IOOF in the last 18 months.
Personally I'm still a bit numb from all this and not envisaging this scenario. The future was going to be so bright for many many years.
