Tokyo Metropolitan Government to Subsidise Ene-Farm Home Fuel Cell System
21 MAY 2013
The Nikkei reports that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is to set up a 10 billion yen fund to subsidise households and businesses that install energy-saving devices, to start next month.
The Ene-Farm residential fuel cell system will be eligible. Without subsidies, an Ene-Farm sells for about 2 million yen (approx. $19,500). With combined subsidies from the central and Tokyo governments, it can be purchased for around 1.4 million yen (~$13,600). It is estimated to cut annual electricity bills by 50,000 to 60,000 yen ($485-585) per household, according to an official at the Tokyo office's environment bureau. It also supplies household heat and hot water.
The Nikkei says the metropolitan government has been working to establish a self-sufficient, distributed electricity supply system to reduce its reliance on Tokyo Electric Power Co.
