What seems unbelievable to me is that VLA didn't negotiate a deal for a modest upfront payment to give Merck exclusive rights to the drug, plus downstream sales-based royalty payments if the drug turns out to be successful. The actual deal gives no participation for VLS shareholders in any future reward. Merck bought the company for about half the value of the quarterly revenue they get from selling Keytruda - chump change for them.
