NEW DELHI: After onion, it is the turn of tomato prices to burn a hole in common man’s pocket.
According to traders, tomato prices have surged by about 25 per cent this week in wholesale markets of New Delhi due to lower arrival from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Quality tomato is being sold at Rs 10 a kg at Azadpur wholesale market in Delhi, which was Rs 7-8 per kg a few days back.
The tomato prices have gone up as arrivals have been lower from Ratlam, Nasik and Kotputli.
Mother Dairy through its Safal outlets was selling the vegetable at Rs 16 per kg.
According to Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board, maximum prices of tomato went up to Rs 1,040 per quintal on November 19 from Rs 1,000 a quintal on November 17.
