The Cosgrove hotspot path under land starts at Cape Hillsborough on the North Qld coast 34 million years ago and progresses south with eruptions at Peak Range, Springsure, Buckland, Byrock, Griffith and Cosgrove (about 20km east of Shepparton in Victoria). It is estimated that the Cosgrove hotspot is currently located just west of the NW corner of Tasmania.

Of course the hot spot hasn't shifted, the Australasian plate has moved north over it at about 70mm per year and where the earth's lithosphere is thin enough the magma has made it through to the surface to produce a volcano. So for the next couple of million years Tasmanians on the west coast better hope that the Cosgrove hot spot doesn't strike a weakend lithosphere as we cruise north over the top of it.
