Tonight’s launch of MRA will unveil five-year plan, corporate logo STATE-owned institution Minerals Resources Authority (MRA), regulator of the mining sector in the country, will be launched tonight at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Mining Dr Puka Temu will launch the new agency and its five-year corporate plan and unveil the MRA corporate logo which will be the highlight of the occasion. This highly-anticipated event will mark a milestone in the history of mining in Papua New Guinea because it will “signify the birth of a new authority and the beginning of a new era in the development of the mining sector in Papua New Guinea”. The launching will mean that the authority can now move forward in carrying out its strategic plans, which it had set out in its five-year plan. The MRA was created by an Act of Parliament in 2005 (MRA Act 2005) and the authority’s mission was to effectively promote a healthy and sustainable mineral industry. MRA’s other objective is to provide a regulatory environment which maximises mining opportunities to ensure optimum benefits for the people of PNG. Guests who will attend include ministers, departmental heads, executives of the mining industry and diplomatic corps.
