We certainly haven't got anywhere by trying to foster a good relationship, in fact it seems to have worked against us as a sign of weakness. It's time we reversed that tactic and added some distance to suit the response we've received to our diplomacy.
We should stop all aid, put it towards defence and stop all joint excercises, they are a joke.
Many other regional countries have family ties with Oz and commercial interests. I doubt they would look kindly on Indonesia making any moves that threaten those interests, especially as many will be wealthy and influential in those countries.
Indonesia's human rights record is shocking, thinking of East Timor and West Papua New Guinea as examples of how they invade countries and abuse the people.
Time to take a step back and reassess this relationship.
