PETER Garrett is to call a halt to the $2.45 billion insulation program amid rumours that installers have been receiving text messages this morning telling them to down tools.

A press conference has been called by the Environment Minister for 1.45pm today.

A senior industry source told The Australian that recently established installation companies have been receiving the messages, warning them that the scheme will be suspended today.

According to reports on twitter, the text message reads: ?Home Insulation Pgm has closed. Pls check your emails for info. Aust Govt. Msg.?

Mr Garrett has been under heavy opposition attack over the insulation program, which has been linked to four deaths and at least 87 house fires, as well as allegations of rorting.

The foil insulation industry, which has already been suspended from the scheme, this week called for a halt to the scheme, echoing calls by unions who fear for installers? safety.

sure, the insulation idea has been a tiny weeny little bit of a balls up (only $3,500,000,000 wasted, 4 deaths, 80 house fires, 1000 electrified roofs & 400,000 houses with useless insulation) but i'm sure the rudd government will do much better at rolling out an uncosted $43,000,000,000 nbn......
