Poyndexter, it's easy to write that Tony Abbott is a budget fixer, much harder to back that up with hard proof.
As of September 2013 the IMF rated the Australian economy as one of the strongest of all developed nations. Credit Suisse found that Australians were the wealthiest people on Earth. The $Aud was at about parity with the $US. All major ratings agencies awarded Australia a AAA rating.
Not only was our economy and the budget not broken, Australia was at the top of the bragging rights list list!
PEFO projected growth of 2.5 per cent, unemployment rate to max out at 6.25% in March 2014, a Budget deficit of $30b in 2013-14 and a return to surplus of $4.2 billion in 2016-17.

But something happened on the way to the market on that fateful day, September 9th, 2013. The day Tony Abbott became PM elect.
The 2013-14 Budget deficit was increased to $52b as Abbott rewarded his great big election backers. Unemployment has not started to improve post March 2014 and has come in at 6.3% some 18 months into that time recovery was projected to be gathering momentum. National Debt has ballooned to almost $420b from just $270b and GDP growth would be in the sewer if not for the Ponzi housing bubble many fear could burst open. Even our sharemarket is jelly-kneed and at about the same level when Abbott became PM; confidence is oh-so-low!
On Abbott's horizon is his "NO" jobs plan [ie. just leave it to mining companies and give small business a tax concession for new plant and equipment]. Indonesia has slashed live cattle imports, the Chinese executives NSW permitted to open a coal mine may end up in jail in China, the CBA has joined international banks in turning its back to proposed new coal-mining in QueensLand and even Abbott's new fleet of warships won't commence construction until first steps in 2018.
Abbott's mess is all his own making and he can froth at the mouth all he likes because people are sick and tired of one who promised so much and did the opposite in so many policy areas [current count is 32 broekn promises according to Sally McManus]:
