My 1.5KW system cost me $2000 + $200 for the meter.
I use around 8 units a day at a cost of 20cents a unit
The system should produce around 4 units a day in winter and 5 in summmer. No one home during the day and the power consumption is about 0.7 units(to run the fridge) , so I will export 3.3 units a day in winter and 4.3 units in summmer.
The export price is 40 cents per unit , so in theory my power bill over the year should be zero , I may even end up in the black.
Should pay for itself in less than 4 years
My contract for the export rate is for ten years.
Bad news is the WA state government just cut the export rate down to 20 cents per unit for those install after 30th of June , making the whole exercise less attractive. A price on carbon may alter this back the other way.
