Jambo12; your apparent lack of appreciation of historical context is stunning! Political violence in Australia is a very long way from being a recent phenomena.
The would-be-assassination by the man who tried to blow Arthur Calwell's head right off was a massively more serious matter than a slightly fatter lip for poor little precious Tony Abbott; the cut-pig like squealer. Let's not forget that John Howard wore a Kevlar bullet-proof vest after launching his gun buy-back nor what happened to Kevin Rudd's godson recently.
As for the venom stuff; how do you expect people to respond to someone who has treated asylum seekers as 'illegals', someoned who demeaned unionised workers as criminals, someone who denigrated Muslims as terrorists, who referred to homosexuals as a 'threat' to HIM, who ridiculed Aborigines living in remote communities as 'lifestyle choices' and who even went public character witness for a man hauled before the courts over allegations of cover-up by the Catholic Church of child sex abuse by priests?
Further, do you seriously expect those kicked pretty damn hard in the guts by Abbott's grossly unfair 2014 Budget just to roll over and say; "Thanks Tony!"?
