Abbott was ridiculed by Labour and sneered at by the press. Kerry O'B curled his lip and practically called him a liar and a fool to his face. Astonishingly Abbott always seemed authentic, even-tempered and almost cheerful as if he was having the time of his life. People love the plucky underdog, particularly up against a gay socialist who acted like a giraffe pretending to be a zebra.
Abbott deserves to form the next government, although hopefully he waters down the parental scheme and isn't as gungho as Howard if the US starts a war with Iran.
