    I don’t discount the small possibility that may be the case. However, from a strategic perspective cant see it happening. All the key players have stood with Turnbull and slated Abbott. If the net result is that Turnbull goes, the whole lot of them will stink in the eyes of the electorate and Labor may as well start planning for govt. A spill of any kind given the numbers would see an early election. Any new leader would have a poison chalice and the liberals would be wiped out.

    The likelihood is that Turnbull will stand firm and will contest the next election. If he is outed beforehand its another laydown misere by the Liberal’s, conceding govt to Labor. All this because no-one was able to convince Abbott to retire gracefully and take up a nice cushy ambassadorial post in a plum city.

    The sin of pride can be a very destructive one. A Catholic should realise that.
