AND given that knowledge, the people voted to MAKE SURE the coalition didn't have the power in the senate.
Couldn't you argue that the people (by voting in such a broad senate representation) wanted to make sure that the new government would have to negotiate with a variety of viewpoints?
There are 2 houses of parliament for exactly this reason.
