Well that's plainly obvious to anyone who understand show the electoral system works kellbys. You do deals to maximise your political advantage.
I'm talking about something different - making the Senate democratic. Ideally, common sense dictates a winner is 50% +1 in any context. It's common sense. Because of the structure of the Senate, that's not possible but there are ways to increase the quota significantly from 14% toward 50. I'm saying, like Keating, that 14% is not worthy of representation by democratic standards, let alone 0.51% which is an abomination.
This would mean the demise of fringe dwelling parties and Independents. I believe that's a good thing. I'm yet to see, in half a decade of following politics, an Independent or fringe Party worthy of having political influence. By virtue of their small representation, they don't represent many views!
