I don't think the statistic about total wealth has much meaning. We have no inheritance tax so someone born wealthy will leave more to their offspring than they inherited as long as income exceeds expenditure over a lifetime, which is likely as they can exploit their inherited wealth as well as their initiative. Hence people born wealthy such as Gina Rhinehart tend to become more wealthy. Most other countries have a death tax.
The statistic which more concerns me is the number of people in the lowest tax brackets compared to the top tax brackets.
I think we are seeing a bifurcation into those with "good jobs" and those with "crap jobs". The number of "good jobs" is decreasing. Good jobs with good wages, conditions and security are with government and big companies. Those in the service industry such as cooks, cleaners and drivers live a completely different life to public servants, miners and wharfies.
To counter this we need to abolish 457 visas so that demand for labour increases.
