DYL gets to sit very pretty through 2006, although IMO through 2007 is when it should really shine!

    Golden year for yellowcake hopefuls

    Paul Garvey
    Thursday, 28 December 2006

THERE'S supposedly no such thing as a sure thing on the stock market, but if you put your money into a uranium stock ? any uranium stock at all ? one year ago, you'd be sitting on a profit. And, in all likelihood, you'd have doubled your money. Report by Paul Garvey.

According to MiningNews.net's watchlist of 52 uranium stocks that were listed one year ago, each and every one is at a premium today compared to where they were at on this day in 2005.

Of those 52, some 30 have more than doubled, while 20 have tripled or better.

In fact, the average appreciation across the companies is a gain of 232.3%.

That figure is distorted by the phenomenal market performance of the year's best-performed uranium stock, Bannerman Resources.

Bannerman, which has picked up ground near uranium pacesetter Paladin Resources' near-production Langer Heinrich mine in Namibia, has appreciated to the tune of 2,870.3%.

One year ago today, Bannerman ? which undertook a share split in September - was sitting at the equivalent of just under 6c a share. Today it stands at $1.98.

It's a similar story at Alliance Resources, which has experienced a gain of 1,023.8% over the same time frame on the back of rapid progress at its Beverley 4 uranium joint venture in South Australia with uranium miner Heathgate Resources.

Among the better-performed uranium stocks in recent times are Paradigm Gold ? which has gained 223.5% over the past month since announcing a switch into uranium ? and the Kate Hobbs-led Uran, which has gained 54.9% over the past 30 days after unveiling an acquisition which could have the company in production by next year.

A soaring uranium price and a softening in attitudes towards uranium mining has created a favourable environment for uranium stocks in 2006, although two of Australia's key states for uranium mineralisation ? Western Australia and Queensland ? are still officially off-limits to yellowcake production.
