I have seen this before. People who have made and lost money on investment (where they have a massive holding) and although the stakes could be higher if they hold everything, if it goes crazy as expected the difference in fortunes for them means very little. If it turns to crap and worth nothing than it is a bigger problem for them as they took nothing off the table, so they take some of the table as a safety when things are bouyant.
