Why do you automatically assume that you are the only smart one in the room and thus entitled to talk down to others?
I went to front loaders ages ago because I had bad dermatitis and wanted to be sure all the soap was rinsed out, soap being a possible cause.
I have a water meter but with a bore to water the yard I went onto a "water savers" plan where I only pay for actual usage, so I would pay extra for water but I don't have the bum out of my pants so can afford it.
The dead machines included a Miele. The current Samsung I have had to replace the door switch 4 times but it can be opened so I cleaned it three times. The other time a "jesus" spring popped so I bought a new one ['jesus" where did that go?] This time it is either a control board or motor and I am disinclined to do such repairs. They are time consuming and expensive.
If the top loader still has complex electronics there is prolly no point in going back. But that's why I asked about others' experience.
