You are correct in that I'm not a holder any longer despite the fact that at one time I was listed in the top 20 for both FPO and Options at the same time - those were the days ;)

Davidrau's answer reflects my understanding also. Option holders do not have the same "rights" as shareholders. Their only right is to exercise the option for the appropriate number of shares (and the consequent rights of shareholders to participate in company activities), or alternatively sell the options to someone else.
