I don't know which government it was but the banks and the building societies screamed that unless they could get into the full commercial scene they could not make enough money.
Hark back to the Pyramid BS who were told by the Vic Labor government that if they expected to make more money they had to get into the commercial scene which they did which sent them and a lot of Victorians broke
Neither they or the government has the expertise to do it
