Not so difficult to understand. There is money to be made and they want a slice of the action. They are smoothing the way with diplomacy e.g. former Senegal fighters being given French passports and Promises to be their for the long haul (unlike other companies who have been known to exit Africa when things don't suit them e.g Australian company starting with a W).

What remains to be seen is how they get in. Events are probably in motion already.
