Whilst holidaying up north, I dropped my son off to the Townsville airport on Easter Monday around 9am about 6 years ago. I had no idea the magnitude of the FIFO mob, the whole airport was full and a sea of highviz shirts.
Mine closures are in hyperdrive at the moment, I think we will see a lead lag effect of this on the whole real estate industry in QLD and WA and my thoughts would be it cant hurt to wait 3- 6 months to see what impact this has on real estate prices in places like Townsville.
From what I am being told by people in the industry wages in the mining industry are heading south so less income to buy toys and homes and less people on the previous gravy train.
